The To Be King Project
The painting Las Meninas by Velázquez (1565) and a subsequent essay on the painting by Michel Foucault (1966) inform the over-arching framework of The To be King Project. It is the insights into structures of power, social and psychological, represented by Velázquez and analyzed by Foucault, that I use as entry points to negotiate the relationship between border-line space and center, text and image, power and the gaze. The To Be King installation has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, it is in the collection of The Brooklyn Museum, NYC and The Iwalewahuis Museum, Bayreuth, Germany. Blueprint for the DisOrder of Things was exhibited at the Wits Art Museum.The series Out of The Blue I-V from Blueprint for the DisOrder of Things is in the collection of the Norval Museum. The works from the exhibition Trade-Off are part of the UJ Museum collection.

The Santiago Cross : Invisible Trade
The exhibition The Santiago Cross: Invisible Trade is a further iteration of the To Be King project. This exhibition focused on the challenge by Velasquez to the idea that art was a trade. The invisible labour in the making of an artwork as well as the colonial exploitation through trade by the Spanish monarchy are explored in this work.

BluePrint for The DisOrder of Things
This Project was started during the lockdown time of Covid-19 pandemic. It builds on concepts related to previous exhibitions, in particular the installation To Be King and the book The Order of Things by Michel Foucault.
The first iteration of Blueprint for the DisOrder of Things took place at the Wits Art Museum when the pandemic was still ongoing. Other iterations of this project included the exhibitions, Broken Vessels, The Princess, the Astronomer and The Order of Things and Trade-Off.
