The Santiago Cross/ Trade Ship - Cursed

The trade of materials and people which underpinned the imperial project is symbolised by the recurring image of a ship sailing across the horizon line. The ship is drawn from an 'ex voto' painting in the Cathedrale de la Rochelle called La Rochelle Slave Ship Le Saphir, painted in 1741.
